The Crooked Pinky: How it all started

I don’t know about you guys but I have been DYING to show off all of my new designs! Making jewelry is my most favorite hobby, EVER! I hope you enjoy my designs as much as I enjoyed making them! I’m not going to go into all of my designs and describe every piece so I am going to pick my top 5 favorites! But… before I do, I would like to give you a quick background of how I got into making jewelry! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I promise I will try and keep this shorter than normal! ๐Ÿ˜‰

My senior year in high school, 12 freaking years ago, we had to do a Senior project. I knew exactly what I wanted to do but wasn’t sure if I could find a way to do it. Fortunately, I was a gymnast and one of my teammates mom owned a jewelry store in our hometown. I had brought it up to her and she agreed to help me out with it. The whole process was a blast and I knew after that, that I wanted to go further with this hobby! Oh, and the final product was love at first site! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I pictured it in my head and drew it on paper. I had pictures of the whole process and had to do this presentation on it. Luckily, you got to choose 3 teachers, so I chose the BEST 3 I had! ๐Ÿ™‚ 2 of them will (hopefully) read this, so if you are, Hey Hey! Thanks for being so awesome in school and being so supportive then and even better, NOW! ๐Ÿ™‚

So… here is the final product! Unfortunately, my fingers have grown massively and it doesn’t fit anymore but it has a special place in my jewelry box! ๐Ÿ˜‰

The Crooked Pinky.

The Crooked Pinky

Cutest little thing EVER, right?! ๐Ÿ™‚

Ok… onto the future! After high school, I decided to do an at home jewelry program. I had worked with my mom at her store so it was best to be able to stay there and be able to work on jewelry at the same time! If you haven’t read about my mom’s store, Tanyaโ€™s, you should! ๐Ÿ˜‰ After doing the at home program, I realized that I needed a teacher. I needed to be in a class physically and mentally. That’s how I learn best! 2005, pregnant with my son, I just started googling and came across one in NYC. Who wouldn’t want to go to school in NYC?! It was a 12 week course that required me to travel 4 hours to and from every Saturday morning, plus sit in class from 8-1pm! It was worth it to me and I decided to do it. Shout out to everyone who took time out of their Saturdays to make the trip with me and explore the city while I sat in class! You all helped me out a lot! Especially my mom! I think she made almost every trip with me! ๐Ÿ™‚ The class taught me a lot but I slowly went away from it after having kids. Life got in the way and I lost interest.

Stay with me, people! My top 5 favorites are coming up! I promise! ๐Ÿ˜‰

2013 came and a light bulb went off! I was ready to go out and buy everything I could to get back into it. All my old stuff I tossed because I really thought I was done. I thank my wife for the new spark. I don’t know if she was my inspiration or what but ever since then, I haven’t quit! To have someone believe in you so much is beyond riveting! So, my dearest wife, Thank you! ๐Ÿ˜‰

That was probably too boring but I hope you’re still with me! ๐Ÿ™‚ Long story short, I am here in NJ, making jewelry that I love and improve with every piece I make, and I hope to continue to design even better pieces for the future! ๐Ÿ™‚ Now… what we have all been waiting for! My top 5 favorite pieces…

Stitch Fix #6

It has been longer than normal, I know! I apologize, but I have freshened up my look and have been working hard on some new things! Stay tuned for that! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I had to extend my monthly box this time, due to other reasons but it’s finally here! I have to admit that I didn’t specify too much on this box but I pinned the shit out of spring styles and sleeveless tops! I was so anxious for this box! My friend and I look forward to our boxes every month and this time we peeked at each others! It was a fun twist knowing we knew what each other got but also trying to have a poker face and not giving anything away! After seeing her face and her reaction about my box, I couldn’t wait to rush home and open it!! ๐Ÿ™‚ Let’s just say this was my MOST FAVORITE BOX, yet!

Stitch Fix Stylist Note

I just love Caley and her notes! So happy she is sticking with me! ๐Ÿ˜‰

BC Footwear: Dinky Fringe Sandal (Mint)- $60

I am OBSESSED with fringe but I am always too afraid I can’t pull it off! These sandals are beyond perfect! I LOVED them the second I pulled them out of the bag!

Dinky Fringe Sandal

Dinky Fringe Sandal (Mint)

How about the color?! I love them so much! I’m keepin em! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Liverpool: Navarra Printed Front Seam Cotton Top- $54

I pinned this top. I pinned it knowing I liked the look but it was WAY out of the box for me. It has sort of a western feel to it but I think the pin I pinned wasn’t what I pulled out of the box. I guess it looked more elegant. I don’t know! LOL

I wasn’t sure I liked it when I pulled it out but the second I put it on I loved it! It really will be perfect for the summer (Thanks, Caley!). It’s a bit too long in the back, which you can’t tell in this picture. Luckily for me, my mom can save that! If you haven’t read about her business and all the amazing things she does, check it out here!

Navarra Printed Front Seam Cotton Top (White)

Like I said, its a bit western but I think that’s what makes the top! The material is perfect! White freaks me out a little because, well, I am terrible with white clothing. I am going out on a limb and keeping it anyway! Mother Nature needs to get her shit together so I can wear it! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Stacatto: Madelene Raglan Roll Sleeve Knit Top- $48

This is a little less Spring but with the weather, it works! It reminds me of some other tops I have gotten already but I could wear these tops every day! They are SO comfy! I love the fit as well!

The length in the back is longer also which I think would make a cute comfy outfit paired with leggings! Or as I would say “leggins” ๐Ÿ˜‰

Madelene Raglan Roll Sleeve Top (Grey)

Madelene Raglan Roll Sleeve Top

I always love the extra details on the tops! They add a little pop to the shirts! This is just proof that black and brown DO go together! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Dear John: Lillie Cuffed Short- $58

Honestly, I am at my biggest right now. When I pulled these shorts out of the box, I wanted to cry and use them as a tissue! I PRAYED they would be too big. Unfortunately, they fit perfect. And I LOVEEEEE them! They have a bit of stretch to them which is super nice and I hate to admit this also, but they have a bit of a high waist to them. I can tuck my “mom pooch” in them! LOL

Lillie Cuffed Short (Blue)

Lillie Cuffed Short

LOVE them! I wish I could have a few pairs of these! They’re longer than I normally wear but these are perfect!

Now, onto my FAVORITE piece of this fix!

Collective Concepts- Hajar Off the Shoulder Top (Navy)- $54

I can’t say I love this top enough! Off the shoulder tops, fringe, floral, and boho are my things and I cannot wait to wear this, besides in the pic! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hajar Off the Shoulder Top (Navy)

Do you love it as much as I do?!?! Wait… it gets better! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hajar Off the Shoulder Top (Closeup)

And… This outfit will be my favorite outfit of the summer! I recently scored myself a pair of Ked’s at TJ MAXX for $24!

Hajar Off the Shoulder Top (Navy)

I don’t know about you but I think it’s the cutest outfit, EVER! ๐Ÿ™‚ It goes perfectly with the Lillie Cuffed Shorts! ๐Ÿ™‚

Stitch Fix #5

Have you all been dying for this Fix as much as I was?!? I feel like this past month went by SO slow! Well, wait no further! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Here it is!

Also, side note, this Fix was probably my worst one. NOT the clothes but the timing of the shipment and our schedules. This is when that 3 day window can totally suck! My wife is on 12 hour shifts, so therefore, doesn’t get home until almost 7pm. Ok? So, what does that have anything to do with your Fix? Well… day light! Our lights aren’t the best in our house so when it’s dark out, forget taking decent pictures. So, just bare with me on the photo quality! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Before we hop into my 5th box from Stitch Fix, let me tell you what it actually is!

It’s the coolest thing ever!ย  For those of you who are too busy to shop, hate shopping, or are looking for a new style, like myself,ย  this may be something for you!

41 Hawthorne: Colibri Solid Tab Sleeve Blouse- $48

I loved everything about this blouse, except the fit. I was sent a Medium. If you read my Stitch Fix #4, you will see why I was frustrated with the size.

10
41 Hawthorne: Colibri Solid Tab Sleeve Blouse (Dark Green)

Btw, the static was unreal! My wife and I, literally, rubbed a dryer sheet all over me before taking these pictures! LOL #thestruggleisreal

9
41 Hawthorne: Colibri Solid Tab Sleeve Blouse (Dark Green)
11
41 Hawthorne: Colibri Solid Tab Sleeve Blouse (Dark Green)

As you can see from the back, I’m super broad! After seeing the back of it, that was my deciding factor in sending it back! I would love to have this type of blouse for work or other engagements but I feel I should have a bigger size. Whether it looks good or not, I need to be comfortable.

Market & Spruce: Sam Hi-Lo Short Sleeve Tee- $44

I love this tee! I am into loose fitting tops and this was absolutely perfect to add to my closet! The feel is so soft, too!

14
Market & Spruce: Sam Hi-Lo Short Sleeve Tee (Light Grey)
16
Market & Spruce: Sam Hi-Lo Short Sleeve Tee (Light Grey)

After pairing how I would normally wear it, I decided to see how it would look if I wanted to dress it up a little! So, paired with black heels and a black blazer…

15
Market & Spruce: Same Hi-Lo Short Sleeve Tee (Light Grey)

I think it works! Maybe even paired with a pretty scarf or some added jewelry! What do you think?! ๐Ÿ™‚

Paradigma: Gwenifer Kimono- $54

I wanted a Kimono SO badly and, I guess, after pinning TONS of them, Caley found one and sent it! I am in love with this and, although it’s not just for summer, I still can’t wait!

17
Paradigma: Gwenifer Kimono (White)

Isn’t it SO pretty?!?!

Again, by this time taking pictures in terrible light got the best of me. I only did one outfit change with this. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

21
Paradigma: Gwenifer Kimono (White)

I love this though and, obviously, kept it! I wanted a Kimono in a floral pattern! So excited about it! ๐Ÿ™‚

ย Eden Society: Elodie Short- $54

These shorts. Ugh. My favorite color is yellow and I am a HUGE fan of mustard BUT, these shorts just aren’t for me. When I pulled them out of the box, I immediately laughed. I’m 30 but sometimes, I refuse to dress like I’m 30. I feel these shorts were too “old lady” for me. I only took one picture because I was so disgusted at the color and the fit.

I didn’t even get a picture of the front of them! I just couldn’t wait to put them in the bag to send back. I was so checked out.

20
Eden Soceity: Elodie Short (Mustard)

Caley suggested to pair them with the Hi-Lo Tee & Kimono from this fix. It’s a good thing I cut off my head because I’m pretty sure it was a look of “EW!”. They were too tight around my mid-section and came up to my belly button. I felt all my “mom fat” came out over the top. Ya know, like, A MUFFIN! Not happening! The color just wasn’t flattering for me because I’m so pale. Also, I prefer shorter shorts and these just weren’t the fit for me.

Moving on…

Pixley: Kiata Embroidered Lace Collarless Jacket- $88

When I saw my styling card and this jacket was on there, I shouted “YAYYYY!”. I pinned this jacket and SO wanted it. Although, the style card picture (which is what I pinned) is very deceiving. I intended it to have lace at the top and a solid black jacket. Not the case…

24
Pixley- Kiata Embroidered Lace Collarless Jacket (Black)
25
Pixley- Kiata Embroidered Lace Collarless Jacket (Black)

It’s completely see-through! My intentions were to just send it back because that’s not what I had in my head but I decided to try it anyway. At the time I opened my Fix, I was wearing a flowy white tee. I threw it on over top of it just to see if I could get it on because, again, I got send a Medium. It was ugly with the white tee.

26
Pixley: Kiata Embroidered Lace Collarless Jacket (Black)

I love this look here! It would look cute with capris & shorts, as well. The only thing that I didn’t like was the price. $88 is just plain ridiculous! After reviewing my whole Fix and knowing I was sending, at least, 2 items back, I knew my discount was gone.

Merchandise Total: $288.00 (Yikes!!) Buy 5 Discount: -$72. Styling Fee Credit: -$20. Credit from my awesome referrals- $30

Total: $166.00

After doing the math, it was stupid to keep the whole box JUST for the price. I wouldn’t even wear 1 item. But wanting to keep the other 3 was $20 more than the whole box. I regret my decision but pray the jacket will come back to me again, I sent 3/5 items back. Keeping the Tee & Kimono, I only spent $48. Getting referrals really pays off!

The WOD Box: March Box Overview

Since I receiveย Stitch Fixย every month, I had been on the lookout for a monthly box for my wife. She is not picky, at all, but this was SO hard to find something for her. I didn’t want to sign up for something that she may only like 1 item. Then I came across The WOD Box. If you LOVE the gym & working out, this is JUST FOR YOU! Let me fill you in on what it is first, then I’ll get into what she received in her March box! ๐Ÿ™‚

When I initially signed her up, I did the 3 month subscription. I didn’t want to spend the money on the 6 month if this wasn’t going to be beneficial to her. Currently, they have 3 options to sign up for. You can sign up for 1 monthly box, 3 monthly boxes, or 6 monthly boxes. They average out to be about $20 a month. Yes, you pay for them up front, but it’s not too bad! In every box you get about 6ย fitnessย products and samples, plusย 20% offย anything in their store. We haven’t taken advantage of that perk yet. Products range fromย supplements, healthy snacks,ย equipment,ย apparelย and more! ย Her first box she received she was hooked and was so surprised I found something for her! I never told her! ๐Ÿ˜‰

So here is what she received her in her March box!

Most of the items we have never heard of but then pull stuff out and cheer like we hit the jack pot! ๐Ÿ˜‰

WOD1
Accupoint Ergonomic Spine & Tissue Massager

Who doesn’t need one of these?! Especially a day or two after a kick-ass back workout! This fancy thing includes the Accupoint and a Drills Guide! It helps accelerate recovery from back pain and sports injuries, cradles the spine for corrective therapy and applies pressure for increased circulation! It is also super easy to clean and its made of foam! Goodbye tennis balls! ๐Ÿ™‚

WOD3
Coromega OMEGA-3 Orange Squeeze

This just sounds delicious! 8 single serving packets! If you take fish oil, no need with these bad boys! You just tear it open and either, squeeze directly in your mouth, onto a spoon, or add it to food or drink! As its stated on the back of the pack- No fish burps! ๐Ÿ™‚

WOD4

I know we have all heard of Quest. 2 of these lovely packets were included in this months box. 22g of protein per packet? Yes, please! Cara was super stoked to receive protein again! ๐Ÿ™‚

WOD5

As its stated on the back of the packet: “A Fuel Pack is simply pureed fruit plus 10 grams of protein, that’s it! Nothing artificial. No mysterious ingredients. Just real food.” You can enjoy these before or after a workout! Sweet!!

WOD2

This is a first at seeing these. They’re very intriguing, if I say so myself. Reading the back of it just blows my mind what these things are equivalent to. One of these chews meets daily antioxidant needs, the equivalent level of 2 1/4 tomatoes, 2 1/2 cups of spinach, and 1/2 an orange. It is a dietary supplement but definitely curious to how these will taste!

Well, that’s it for the March WOD Box. If you are interested in more about The WOD Box, just visit their siteย hereย and see for yourself! Also, you should check out their Facebook page! They normally, always, have a coupon code for the month! ๐Ÿ™‚ If you have tried The WOD Box, I would love to hear your thoughts and what all you got! ๐Ÿ™‚

The Bachelor…My Why’s

I am a sucker for The Bachelor & The Bachelorette, I’ll admit. This season even more. This season I have decided to join a few friends & my wife and do the whole bracket “fantasy football” type thing but with the contestants. I have never been more into a season than this one. After watching it so intently, here a few why’s I have asked myself and thought it may be a little far fetched. Let’s hope its not and believe that this show is just magical and these people are for real! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Why are the girls so pretty?!

I mean, really! I don’t think any of the contestants this season were ugly. Ugly as in, “Omg… how the hell did she even make it on the show?” That’s probably mean but lets be real. We have all said that one time or 2! All of Ben’s girls were freaking gorgeous. How about the morning he went in and woke them all up. PERFECTLY BEAUTIFUL. Did they get notice ahead of time because when I wake up in the morning, I am one big, hot mess! Except Lauren H. She had her retainer in but she still looked good. Amanda woke up fully ready for her date. At 3am?! Come on!! Not to mention the girls bodies. They all prance around in their bikinis! Can we get a mom that has stretch marks all over her stomach. A girl with her muffin top hanging over her jeans. A girl in a freaking one-piece?! Honestly, a girl that has flaws other than a big mouth and just all into herself! Just look at them. Every. Single. One. They’re beautiful!

Why are they always perfectly dressed?!

Every time we see the girls, they look so freaking cute! Can we get some girls in jeans and t-shirts?! Sneakers maybe? I guess if I were to go on national television, I would go shopping asap for a bunch of clothes that I normally wouldn’t wear, but still. Maybe I’m jealous. No… I AM jealous! As I sit and watch the show in my hoodie that most likely has stains on it! LOL

Hometown dates. Why are their houses so damn big?!

Can we please see someones house, maybe, smaller?! How about someone who lives in a trailer? Anything more realistic! Caila’s dad is the CEO of Step2. Really?! How about we find someone who’s parents live paycheck to paycheck. Or maybe someone who doesn’t even have parents! All of these things just make me think a lot of this is staged. Hell, it probably is but I just refuse to believe that!

Why is Ben so nice?!

He is seriously the sweetest! How about we get someone who is a complete douche and doesn’t care about the girls at all. A guy who is so shallow and thinks he’s the best thing on this Earth. Can we find one of those guys because I know there are PLENTY! Oh wait… his name was Juan Pablo! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Why is Olivia’s mouth so big?!

Ok… I’m getting a little off track but her mouth is just huge. And obnoxious!

Those are only a few of my Why’s that I ask while watching this show. Feel free to fill me in on what bothers you about this show. At least, just make me feel like I’m not the only one with these crazy, pointless thoughts! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I would love to hear yours!

Traveling: A Love/Hate Relationship

Traveling. Ugh. I hate it so much buttttt I love where it takes me! Whether it be by car or plane, the destination is whats worth it, right?! I mean, that’s the whole point of traveling. Traveling by car doesn’t bother me too much because I’m normally not going that far away so, let me tell you what I hate aboutย traveling by plane. Also, some tips and tricks for ya to try out! ๐Ÿ™‚ You may or may not agree with me, but who cares!

1. Departure gate

I fucking hate airports. Simple as that! The worst thing about an airport to me is the perimerter of it. They have so many signs. Some make sense but others don’t. When you get to the airport, you just want to find where your going and get on with your trip. There are many times where you can’t get over because there are so many assholes stopping in the middle of the street! IT’S A DROP OFF ZONE… MOVE IT ALONG!!ย If you miss your gate, you literally have to drive all the way back around and try again. So annoying!

2. Luggage

I’m going to tell you my little tricks here! I travel far distances as often as I can, to Alaska, obvi! I hate packing. I try to take as little as possible so I only need to take a carry on. Sometimes, I pack it a little TOO much but I refuse to pay an extra $25 to check a bag! So, the last few times I still had to check a bag BUT it was free! I have a normal carry on suitcase that I got at Target. Well, apparently it’s too big for (most) overhead compartments so here’s how I do it. I pack the shit out of it. When I get through security and get to my gate is when it happens. Normally, I just sit and hang out until the announcement comes on. They announce that they’re taking “volunteers” to check their bags to their final destination, at no extra charge. It really depends on how I’m feeling. Ha! Sometimes I’ll go up and do it, other times I just wait it out until I board. I have gotten away with my carry on most of the time but lately, they have been making me check it. It’s annoying but after they make me, I think, well… it was free, I don’t have to worry about trying to quickly grab my stuff to exit the plane, AND I don’t have to worry about dragging it around with me. So, next time you’re thinking about taking a short trip and don’t want to pay the extra $, take a carry on!

3. Food

Airport food sucks. It’s rare when I actually find something I like. Most of the time, I will try and find healthy options but that’s impossible for me, because I’m really picky. Then the price. $3 for a water?! No thanks! Pack a water bottle and find a bar! They will normally fill it upย with ice water! ๐Ÿ˜‰ If you’re looking for fast food, you can easily find that but for 2x more than you would normally pay. It’s ridiculous. I always end up getting it because… I need to eat!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

4. Price

Every time I search for flights a part of me dies. Now, let me just say that I would pay an infinite amount of money to see my kids, but it doesn’t grow on trees. I am always looking for a deal and the cheapest tickets. I’ve tried every little trick you find from google or pinterest. Some work out and others don’t. I try to remember how much I pay every time so next time I book, I have a budget of some sort. Obviously, holidays will always be the most expensive and also when you book last minute! I try to book tickets a month in advance. Then, you go and pay $500 for a flight, only to find out on the plane you only get a drink! Um, where’s my snack mix?! The last 4 times I’ve traveled I haven’t gotten any! I travel for 9-10 hours and you’re not going to give me a snack?! I get pretty hangry! So when in doubt, pack a snack because ya never know what you’ll get!

5. Temperature

I have only done this my last trip but I think it will be my go to from now on. I recently received a poncho in my 3rdย Stitch Fix. If you haven’t gotten your fix, click that link! What are you waiting for?! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Ok… back on track. My temperature is all over the place. I’m zooming through the airport and sweating my ass off but when I get on the plane, I freeze. So, thanks to my BFF for suggesting I wear my poncho, I did! Threw on some leggings, boots, and a 3/4 length sleeve top under it. It was seriously the PERFECT traveling outfit. It easily comes off and I can shove it in my carry on if I need to. On the plane, it works for a blanket! It was perfect and I was so glad I wore it! Thanks Stephanie! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Unless, of course, you’re ok with paying MORE money for a blanket!

12695390_527557477405328_1912621857_o
Isn’t it the perfect travel outfit?!

I could go on but I won’t bore you anymore! I’m taking my next trip next month so I’m sure I will have a part 2 and more things to complain/brag about! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Stay tuned, but in the meantime, I want to hear why you love/hate traveling! ๐Ÿ™‚

Sunday Feature: Tanya’s

Small businesses are going to be a popular focus here at The Crooked Pinky. ย I will be featuring a wide variety of them. This week, being my first one, I figured I would pick a very important one. A small business that has been a part of my life for almost 20 years. A small business that my mom had as a dream and eventually came true. If you’re not aware of “Small Business”, let me make a long story short. If you don’t support small businesses, you should. Not only are they (mostly) family owned but those small businesses are what hard work, long hours, and dedication looks like. Owners of small businesses work many, many hours that you probably aren’t even aware of. So, with that being said… SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SMALL BUSINESSES!

Tanya’s opened in 1997. My mom always wanted to open her own store. With the hard work between both my parents, it happened. It started out as a fabric store with specialties in alterations and custom clothing handmade by my mom. As her store grew, she saw bigger and better opportunities. Tanya’s today is a huge change from where it started. Makes me want to sing Drake’s song “Started from the bottom, now we’re here…” No? Ok… moving on. As you continue reading, remember, that this is coming from her daughter and I will try my best not to be biased. I’m here to tell you about all the awesome amentities Tanya’s has to offer. I mean, walking down a red carpet the second you walk in the door is pretty special! ๐Ÿ˜‰

IMG_5983.jpg

Bridal

This has become the main focus at Tanya’s. It’s just a few services short of your one stop shop. Your entire bridal party will be set. A huge selection of bridal gowns, an endless collection of bridesmaids dresses, tuxes, and flower girl dresses. Whatever you have in your mind (or pinterest board) for your dream wedding, you won’t be disappointed here!

When you make your appointment (highly recommended) to say yes to that perfect dress, you just made the first step to making your special day perfect! As soon as you walk in the door, you are in the best hands. The hospitality alone, is top notch! You have your own little bridal suite for your whole party to be separated from the rest of the store. They really make it so comfortable for you and super relaxed. It really is the perfect shopping experience!

While you’re picking that gorgeous dress, your groom can be picking out the mens attire. This is my dads specialty. He makes the groom and his favorite boys feel right at home. As your groom picks out his tux, beer in hand, Jay is there to help him breeze through the process. Just because they’re owners doesn’t mean they’re not there. Tanya’s is a family owned business and you will ALWAYS see their faces!

j1.jpg

Now that you’ve gotten your dress and tuxes, it’s time to pick your besties bridesmaid dresses. When I say endless selection, I mean it. An entire wall full of dresses. You really can’t walk away without falling in love with one… or 10! So many color options to choose from, its really hard to be disappointed! Oh, and we can’t forget the special little flower girl!

IMG_6013

Dance Plus

Another resource of Tanya’s is there dance wear selection. A small selection at the Montoursville location, which also includes some GK gymnastics leos!

If you can’t find what you’re looking for in Montoursville,ย most of their items can be found in Lewisburg. They have an additional store in the Street of Shops on Water Street. That’s another easy breezy experience. You walk in, grab what you want, and pay at a main cashier. That’s it! They carry popular brands in their clothing, tights, and footwear. Just remember, if you need shoes (pointe shoes, in particular) you’ll need to get them fitted. Tanya’s is the perfect place for the fitting! They’ve been doing that for 15+ years! They’re pros! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Alterations

This has been the one focus of my moms that has never gone away. To have the patience to sew is unexplainable. Lets just say, I didn’t get lucky enough to have this trait! She will be ashamed to admit that I can’t even sew on a button! The talent that she has is seriously incredible! The customers she has have been coming to her ever since the day she first opened her doors. When you find what you prefer, you stick to it, and her customers are proof! She is even lucky enough to have made some friendships from customers, which I think is an added bonus! As I said earlier, that they’re the owners but they take pride of their store. They have and will always be involved! If you have questions about alterations, its best to contact them and ask. ๐Ÿ™‚

Prom

Prom dresses have come along way since I went to prom. They’re so sparkly and shiny! From short to long, to both. Tanya’s has the prettiest selection. If you want a dress that everyone will leave Prom talking about, you will find it at Tanya’s! I suppose I could give you a sneak peek but pictures really don’t do these dresses justice!

Ice Cream

This part of Tanya’s was my dads idea. He has this crazy dream of being the new cool ice cream man! ๐Ÿ˜‰ From expanding their Montoursville, PA location to include ice cream to setting up a trailer every summer for The Little League World Series. He has determination and its taking off! They first started out with selling the delicious handmade Sunset Ice Cream but they have decided to expand a little bit further. Hershey’s has now found an extra home at Tanya’s. I think he has some more stuff up his sleeve but I have to make you wait for that! ๐Ÿ™‚

Now that I got you hungry for ice cream, you should go get some! ๐Ÿ™‚

I didn’t get into specific details about everything Tanya’s offers but you can go check out their website here. You will find everything you need, including location and hours! Another tip to remember about Tanya’s and it being a small business is that when you make appointments and they’re not within their normal business hours, they’re taking time out of their normal lives to make your appointment possible. They go out of their way to put their customers first and I would hate to have them waste their time. My opinion here, but if you don’t have intentions on actually purchasing a dress and you know that before you come into the store, don’t waste their time. That’s sorta like someone saying they want to come visit you but they only come over to eat all your food and watch your tv. You went out of your way to be the best hostess to only find out that you’re not really getting anything out of it. I guess that’s part of being a small business. The good and the bad. If you have Facebook, (who doesn’t?) go check out Tanya’s! You will get updates on everything and you can even check out all their hard work, and behind the scenes they put into Wedding Expos!

I briefly covered everything but my tip for you is if you are getting married, going to prom, dance or do gymnastics, or love ice cream… Tanya’s is the place to go!

Flashback Friday: How Football Changed My Life

With the Super Bowl coming up this weekend, I figured this post would be suitable. ย I’m not a Broncos fan or a Panthers fan so I don’t have a preference on who I want to win. Honestly, I don’t really care who wins. I’m not here to write about those teams. I’m here to write about the Air Force Falcons. You may have heard of them but most likely, not the same team. The team that changed my entire outlook on Football and turned me into a die hard football fan. The team that taught me how to be a team player. The team that completely changed my life, and here’s how.

The Beginning (Season 1)

October 2011, a few months of living in Hawaii and knowing no one, I got wind of an opportunity to play women’s flag football. At first, I was skeptical. I mean, I knew NOTHING about football. I only ever rooted for The Philadelphia Eagles because I’m a PA girl and that’s a family favorite. Also, aside from not knowing anything, I was shy. I was never the type of person to just show up somewhere, by myself, and be like “Hey, I’m here!”. After thinking it through I figured it would be a perfect opportunity to meet new people and, possibly, gain some friendships. So, off I went to my first football practice. Scared shitless is putting it lightly. “Can I even catch a football?!” “Wait… can I throw one?!” “Do I need to?!” “Maybe I’ll be their water girl?” Ugh. The thoughts just kept running through my head as I pulled into the parking lot. I walked up, introduced myself, and literally just got thrown into practice. The first game was that weekend and I decided that would be the ultimate test if I was really into it or not. Turns out, it was the perfect fit for me. Season 1 was an excitement for me, as well as a let down. I ended up getting injured in our last game before playoffs, which I will get to that in a few.

The Middle (Season 1 into Season 2)

Somewhere along the way in that first season, we had experienced a coach walking out on us. A coach that literally just up and left us to fend for ourselves. In the middle of our damn season. It was a rough time trying to find another coach to be willing to pick up in the middle of everything. Then comes Coach George. I can’t put my finger on exactly how he came along but THANK GOD! He kicked our asses and that was the coach that we needed. Coach Nick and Coach Kenny had also come in along the way too! We were a brand new team trying to get the hang of being a team and working together. Of course, it was a little too late by the time he came but we gave our all in playoffs. I, of course, couldn’t participate in playoffs. Here’s why. I have mentioned that I signed up for FLAG football, correct?! Just making that clear. In our last game before playoffs, I had been running for a touchdown, when all of a sudden, I got tackled. Tackled and pushed out of bounds. I came crashing down and put my hands down in front of me. Not sure how it happened but I got 1 fucked up pinky out of that. So, thanks to that one chic for completely ruining my hand, I am now stuck with a crooked pinky! I was out for awhile but that didn’t keep me away from my team.

I attended every practice after because I was hooked. I was attached to all my teammates and knew that nothing could keep me from this addicting sport. After I was eventually cleared (which I was never in the clear), I began playing again. It took a bit to get used to my finger being bent every single second for the rest of my upcoming life. We had teammates leave and decide not to play anymore. So, on to recruiting and spreading the word. Anyone military affiliated could play. We had a mixed team of active duty and spouses. By the time Season 2 had come around, we had almost a brand new team and it became unbreakable. The camaraderie is unexplainable. We were all attached to each other, on and off the field. ย At one point, we had a team meeting to take votes on Captains. We needed leaders to make decisions. Also to decide on uniforms. In the mix of things, I was voted one of the Captains. ME! It really blind-sided me but hell fucking yes, I’ll take it! The team colors were between Navy and Pink. Clearly, you can see the most popular voted color!

12660422_524021484425594_604369813_n

We were undefeated. We were number freaking 1! Playoffs were always where we fell short. The Navy and Us were always fighting for that number 1 spot. I can’t even tell you how heartbreaking it was to be undefeated all season and then play in playoffs and come in 2nd. This team though… they were my family. On and off the field we were always together! We had a sisterhood. We had a blast off the field but when we stepped on that field, we were there to win!

Season 2 was the best season for me, all around. Let me throw in that this is how I met my wife! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Season 2 was OUR best season. We were a deep knit team. I’m sure the other teams were jealous of how well we played as a team and got along with each other. Being a captain was such a high for me. I was constantly trying to cheer for my team and keep everything put together. I hope I did a good job at it. Whether I did well or not, I was damn proud of my team! I was proud to be a part of this team. Season 2 was one of the best times of my life!

12674204_524021631092246_835239268_n
Clearly proud of my team! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Season 3 (The end…)

My final season. Not that I wanted it to be the end but I was leaving Hawaii. We had lost a lot of teammates again. Either they chose to retire or the dreadful PCS. I continued as captain for the remaining of my career. In the midst of training for Season 3, I got injured again. This time at practice. She’s going to kill me for this but my wife did it! ๐Ÿ˜‰ She was our new QB and threw me a pass that was a little high, I jumped to catch it, and the ball nicked the top of my pinky. OF MY OTHER HAND. I really have bad luck with pinkies. I sat out a few games but it was time to play the last game my wife would be playing in. I needed to play with her, one more time, before she left for NJ to get us settled. I wrapped the shit out of my hand and played the second half! We walked away with another win under our belt but after that game, it was never the same.

12695671_524021707758905_680920350_o.jpg

It just felt… off. I wasn’t playing with many of my teammates from season 2 and it really didn’t feel right. It was time to throw in the towel. The saddest part about it was not knowing if I would ever get to play football again. Not knowing if I would find teammates that would do anything for you. To find anything that made me feel so alive and involved. Flag Football has changed my life. Flag Football will always hold a special place in my heart and so will all of my (old) teammates. The bond that we will always share is what makes everything worth it.

My Role as a Military Spouse

Alright… you all knew this post would come sooner or later!ย  I have been a military spouse for, about, 9 years.ย  The second time around has definitely opened my eyes a little more on everything military.ย  Let’s jump right in!ย  Here are my opinions on some popular topics. You may agree, you may not. Will it change my outlook on things? Probably not.

Job

I’ll start with this one. Ya gotta love these questions! All the “What branch is your wife in?” questions don’t bother me as much. “What does your wife do?” THAT question. That question gets me every time. I ALWAYS catch myself hesitating. Shit. What DOES she do?! Oh yeah… “Air Transportation”! Then the questions keep rolling. “Does she fix planes?” No. “What planes does she work on?” Um, I don’t know?! “Does she fly the planes?” NO! Should I know these things?! Maybe. But I don’t! I know little details. Does that make me a bad military spouse? Maybe to some, but not to me. I’m just a SUPPORTIVE wife to a military member. Should that persuade people into thinking differently of me? I don’t think so. Let me put it this way… If your spouse works in an office, how would you feel if someone asked you random questions like “Where is the building your spouse works in?” “What kind of office chair does your spouse sit in?” “Is it a big building or little building?” Those kind of questions that really don’t matter. I get people are just curious but you’re asking the wrong person.

Military Functions

I don’t attend many but I think that’s ok. I’m not a key spouse. Should I be? I don’t know… maybe? I’m not though and I’m completely ok with that. I may be oblivious to a lot of things that other military spouses know like the back of their hands. I don’t think that makes me a shitty spouse. If my wife has a big function and I’m allowed to go, I’m there! If it is supporting her, I’m there. Anything that involves my wife, her achieving goals or deciding to re-enlist for another 6 years. You’re damn right, I’m there! Like I stated earlier, the second time around is way different. Maybe it’s the situation, I don’t know, but I know almost everyone my wife works with. I’m Facebook friends with most of them. It’s nice for Cara to say someone in her shop wants to meet me. ME?! Really? I’m supposed to be the proud one but it’s nice knowing that my wife is also proud to bring me around and let me show my support for her!

8
Our kids are pretty proud of her too!
9
Re-enlistment for another 6 years!

ALS Graduation

Rank

This one is kind of personal, I feel. Does rank really matter to OTHER people?! Other military members ask this. But why? Will you judge my spouse because she only has a certain amount of stripes? Or… are you curious to how much she makes in a month? Really?! Why is this always a question? My answer is always followed by the correct answer but it just bugs me sometimes. All you need to know is when you see those stripes on her arm or I tell you she’s a SSgt, you should just know that she worked her ass off to get those stripes. You need to know that she is DAMN proud to wear that many (or few) on her arms and so am I! The “stripes” don’t matter to me, personally, because I don’t work for them. I don’t get stressed out worrying about the tasks that come with those stripes or what obstacles you are going to have to overcome for the next set of stripes. All that matters (to me) is that those stripes represent the dedication and hard work my wife has put in to earn them!

Deployment

Deployments suck. Period. All my fellow military spouses know. So much goes on during deployments. You are constantly holding your phone because, god forbid, if you miss a damn call. It is seriously dreadful!ย  When you get into a schedule since they’ve been gone, and they don’t call you one day, the same time they normally call, kills you. Not having your spouse with you every day sucks. I know a lot of people go through this and I’m not saying it doesn’t suck, but sometimes you really don’t understand unless you have gone through it. Having to send your love through care packages, sending letters (Yes, actual written letters) every now and then, emails, Facebook posts to each other. I could go on and on but those are all you have for the 6+ months they’re gone. Trying your best to keep them sane while they’re overseas scared for their life (most of the time). Even when you have break downs because you miss them everyday, they’re having those same breakdowns. Always remember at the end of the night. You are one day closer to them coming home! Bring on the countdowns! Which change. ALL. THE. TIME.

PCS

Permanent Change of Station. Ya know… when we get orders and get to move! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’ve been to a few different bases and they can go from good ol’ Dover, Delaware, to HAWAII! Hawaii… who wouldn’t want to live there?! Fast forward to today and my wife and I are currently stationed in NJ. If you read my post about “Being a mommy… 4,337 Miles Away”, this is where that comes in. Since my children aren’t (biologically) my wife’s children ;), the military won’t move us to be with them. So… bring on the shitty part of PCSing. Where it’s all a waiting game. Every. Single. Day. You just pray and pray to get orders out of your current station. Some may never want to leave where they are (hats off to you) and if my children didn’t live so far away, in Alaska, we probably wouldn’t either. So, let me be kinda silly for a second… Whoever is the head of The United States Air Force, GET ME TO ALASKA!!!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Friendship

FRIENDS! What friends?! Just kidding… but not really. I have a few friends that I continue my friendship with AFTER we part to different duty stations. You say you will see each other again and promise to make plans for visits every year but I’m gonna break it to ya. You don’t. I got lucky and most of my military friends were a part of my wife and I’s wedding but that wasn’t until 4 years later! 4 years. Do you know how long that is when you literally lived right down the road from them or even lived with them?! You saw each other every fucking day. You would walk to their house and just walk in as if you lived there too.ย  Those friends eventually part from you and it’s like separating from family. They become your military family. The only people who know EXACTLY what you’re going through! Shout out to all my dear military family who still keep in contact with me years later! They are definitely one of a kind friendships and you will never find ones like them!

So, there ya have it. My role being a military spouse. I may not be your stereotypical “military wife” but I think I’m doing a fantastic job as being a wife, and that’s all that matters!

Stitch Fix #4

Before we hop into my 4th box from Stitch Fix, let me tell you what it actually is!

It’s the coolest thing ever!ย  For those of you who are too busy to shop, hate shopping, or are looking for a new style, like myself,ย  this may be something for you!

Stitch Fix is an online personal styling service.ย  You pay a $20 styling fee upfront for a stylist to personally style for you.ย  I know I said “personal” a lot, because… it is!ย  Every box is full of 5 items that are picked just for you!ย  Getting started, you fill out a descriptive style profile that really gets to know you.ย  Bonus, you can even add your Pinterest board to your profile and your stylist can browse your favorites! ๐Ÿ˜‰ย  When your box comes, its literally like Christmas!ย  It’s super exciting!ย  Inside, everything is nicely wrapped up for you!ย  It comes with 5 style cards, 1 for each item, with 2 different looks to try.ย  Also a, sometimes dreadful, price sheet.ย  My favorite part of the price sheet?! The “Buy 5 Discount”!ย  Average price for items is $55, which can be a little pricey, but you get what you pay for!ย  You have 3 days to try everything on and decide what you would like to keep.ย  You sign into your profile online and fill out a quick checkout.ย  Here is where you can say if you love an item or hate it!ย  You can also type in a quick description of what you loved/hated about it!ย  Another awesome thing?!ย  You’re $20 styling fee?ย  It doesn’t go to waste!ย  That will be put toward your purchase, as well!ย  If you do have items you would like to return, they provide you with a prepaid envelope so all you need to do is throw the items in there and drop it off at the post office!ย  Super easy!

They also have a referral program!ย  For every person you refer your link to, Stitch Fix gives you a $25 credit for every referral.ย  So why not give it a try?!ย  Try it once, and go from there! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Here is my referral link if you choose to hop on the fashion wagon! ๐Ÿ˜‰

https://www.stitchfix.com/referral/5600622

So, let me tell you about my 4th Fix!

I have done 3 fixes prior to this but wasn’t sure if I was going to stick with it.ย  My first box, I only kept 1 item.ย  That fix was kind of all over the place.ย  My 2nd fix, I kept 2 items! A super cute black 3/4 sleeve top and a scarf.ย  I’m very broad and when I receive items with little to no stretch, I can’t get them on.ย  I got on and added a note to bump me up a size if I were to get a top like that again.

Onto my 3rd Fix.ย  I got a stylist that really payed attention to my pinterest board!ย  She hit me spot on!ย  I kept every item in that box!ย  When I received an email that my 4th Fix was about to be styled and I could add an additional note, I did!ย  I requested to have the same stylist again!ย  And, I GOT HER!ย  She just gets me!

Jarred Lace Detail Cap-Sleeve Blouse ($68)

edit11

Paired above with a previous fix item! The Kate Boyfriend Jean!ย  A must!edit10

edit25

I pinned this top as soon as I saw it floating around!ย  The detail of it is amazing and my closet totally needed a sexy top!ย  When I first went to put it on I looked right at the tag.ย  I have my shirt size set to Medium, but like I said earlier, if there isn’t much stretch, I’m not getting in it!ย  Well, I couldn’t NOT TRY it on because I REALLY wanted this top! As you can see, it fits and I’M KEEPING IT! ๐Ÿ™‚

Callie Denim Jacket ($78)

edit5edit6edit18edit19

I actually requested a jean jacket!ย  I didn’t anticipate a light colored one, but I’m loving it!ย  What’s the best part about the jacket?!ย  IT STRETCHES!

Lawford Knit Top ($58)

edit7edit8edit20edit21

I love a shirt that is flowy!ย  I’m not into anything that clings to me!ย  This is another navy striped item for my closet, and hopefully, the last!ย  I’ve noticed a color trend in my fixes so I will have to make an adjustment to my profile.ย  I pinned this exact shirt though, and Caley delivered. Again! ๐Ÿ™‚

Klarisa Open Drape Cardigan ($88)

edit12

It has pockets!!!!!!!edit13

I love the length of the sleeve!ย  Also, you can see I paired it with the cape sleeve blouse from above and my Kate boyfriend jean from above!

edit22

edit23

The price is the only thing I don’t like about the sweater.ย  If it were at a store and I saw the price tag, I would’ve put it back but with the “Buy 5 discount”, I’m getting it for free! ๐Ÿ™‚

Leighann T-shirt Dress ($64)

edit17

Another item I requested was a t-shirt dress.ย  I was envisioning a more flowy one but adding the jean jacket I got in this Fix goes perfectly with it!ย  This dress will also be perfect for summer time!

Merchandise Total: $356.00 (Yikes!!) Buy 5 Discount: -$89. Styling Fee Credit: -$20.

Total: $247.00

I would drop so much more $ than that if I went out and just went crazy shopping but I will relax and let Caley do my shopping for me! ๐Ÿ˜‰ All of my items I keep, I can literally wear anytime/anywhere! ๐Ÿ™‚

Now that the fun is over and you got to see all the awesome items from my 4th Fix, Go on and schedule yours! I would LOVE to see and hear all about your items you receive!!!!
